11/12/18 Meeting
1. Meet, greet and sign in at 1 p.m., new attendees providing phone numbers, street and email addresses.
2. Mary Moreau called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. Present besides Moreau: Sheila Torres, Bill Quarles, Carla Duke, Julie Starr, Robbee Royce, Diana St. James, Rae Miller, Anne Shulenberger and Carmen Jimenez.
3. October minutes: approved on motion by Royce, second by Shulenberger.
4. Treasurer report: $91.05 bank balance; $32.88 petty cash, $123.43 total. Unanimously approved on motion by Royce, second by Shulenberger.
5. Librarian report: checkouts invited; collection of books, DVDs, magazines maintained at Royce’s home, 1940 Skycrest, Entry 13, closed Tuesday mornings.
6. Old business:
A. Donation update: Club donated $500 to Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue, which has saved 10 or more wild horses threatened with slaughter in a Bureau of Land Management roundup in the Devil’s Garden herd area in northern California.
B. Heather Farm Equestrian Center: online survey available, will be sent to all on email list. Moreau volunteered to write letter of support to Rossmoor News. Quarles, Miller urged efforts to improve and keep the Equestrian Center site. Moraga Horsemens Club contact for support was suggested. More meetings, input opportunities coming.
C. Dec. 5 Xenophon dinner reservations: call or email Torres to make reservation. Carpool at Gateway.
7. New Business:
A. Holiday party plans: 5 p.m. Jan. 7, Dollar Clubhouse. January 2018 event reviewed, with plans for next party to be the same. Details in upcoming press releases, emails.
8. Sharing:
A. Tenny update: Tenny was euthanized. Bailey, stable owner’s Quarter Horse, will become companion horse.
B. Racing update: Camino in stakes race Saturday after Thanksgiving, Run Factor entered in a Nov.15 race, Love Solution to race soon.
C. Visit to Angels for Minis described. Carpool scheduled for Dec. 8 Day of the Horse at Heather Farm Equestrian Center.
D. St. James cancelled horse purchase after vet check revealed physical problem.
E. Shulenberg provided copies of poem by an Orinda horseowner, a tribute to her 27-year-old dressage horse who died of cardiac arrest while she was hand-walking him. It was published Nov. 6 in the East Bay Times.
9. The meeting was adjourned at 2:06 p.m.
The club will not meet in December.
The holiday party is Jan. 7.
The next regular meeting will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2019.
