1. Meet, greet and sign in, adding addresses to roster, at 4 p.m.
a. Marilyn Hoffpauir called the meeting to order at 4:10 p.m.
b. Present besides Hoffpauir were Robbee Royce, Rae Miller, Kendra Anderson, Lee Gale Gruen, Loreta Landucci, Kathie Paul, Sandra Nordgren, Jennifer Case, Barbara Johnson, Ardean Lehnus, Barbara Gilbert, Mary Moreau and Tracy McDermott.
2. Barbara Johnson and Tracy McDermott gave brief introductions as first-time attendees, and Ardean Lehnus reported that the horse she had been trying to sell has found a new home.
3. Minutes of the Oct. 19 meeting were read and unanimously approved.
4. Treasurer’s report –
a. Dues for 2015 are payable and will be due annually at the May meetings.
b. Balance in the club account is $137.10 reflecting deposit of $50 in dues collected at the October meeting, and $17.10 in petty cash. Miller was reimbursed from petty cash $10.35 for purchase of checks. Unanimously approved.
5. Old business:
a. Activities Council– Robbee Royce attended the Oct. 20 meeting, estimating attendance at about 30. She said formation of Horse Enthusiasts Club brought a positive response. Sara Seltzer is scheduled to attend the Dec. 15 meeting. The Activities Council meets on the third Tuesday bimonthly. A member of the club is required at each meeting at 9 a.m. for a social hour, followed by the meeting at 9:30 a.m. Club representatives have an opportunity to report on their club’s activities.
b. Web site – Sandra Nordgren has begun work on a club web site; requested suggestions for categories, a password and member information to be included on the site.
c. Librarian – Royce is accepting donations to the club library, and Moreau noted “Horse People” an enjoyable read.
d. Horses displaced by fires update – Hold Your Horses reported that club donation was used to purchase medical supplies for horses in the Butte fire area. Miller will email to learn current needs.
6. New business:
a. Display case at Gateway – Paul and Case volunteered to help arrange a club display.
b. Channel 28 opportunity – Moreau to email information to Miller
7. Activities and Opportunities
a. Carpool at Gateway for Dec. 12 barbecue at Castle Rock Arabians, 1:30-4 p.m.; signup sheet circulated. Another lesson? If interested, call 925-933-3701 or email [email protected]; www.castlerockarabians.com. Lessons at East Bay Regional Park also a possibility.
b. Cavalia’s Odysseo opens Nov. 25 in SF; Case has information on group rates, has story in Rossmoor News.
c. Xenophon Gala - volunteers wanted; updates coming.
d. Soul Journey With Horses, www.journeywithhorses.com – Nordgren says program focuses on communication with horses; needs contact person, site with horses, arena.
e. Neigh Savers Day at the Races & Holiday Party, Dec. 5, Golden Gate Fields; questions: [email protected] or 925-980-7588.
f. Garrod Farms trail rides, wine tasting – www.garrodfarms.com; Miller emailed Contra Costa Times story, can email again to anyone interested.
8. Sharing
a. R Ranch at the Lake – family resort community with horses, trails; Miller has brochures
b. Busy owner, lonely horse – Lew and Royce providing grooming and exercise on Wednesday mornings. More volunteers needed, contact information provided.
c. Hoffpauir gave information on www.labrescue.org fundraiser; also see the LabRescue page on Facebook.
9. No meeting in December. The next meeting will be a potluck at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18. Royce is chairman and will be compiling a list of food items for this event.
