5/14/18 Minutes
1. Meet, greet and sign in, new attendees providing phone numbers, street and email addresses at 1 p.m.
2. Denise Malvini called the meeting to order at 1:02 p.m. Present besides Malvini: Sheila Torres, Sara Seltzer, Rosemary Fischer, Rae Miller, Adi and Roberta Adins, William K. (Bill) Quarles, David and Bobby Besenfelder, Wendy Markel, Robbee Royce, Sandra Nordgren, Anne Shulenberger, Diana St. James and a visitor, Carolyn Bowles.
3. The business meeting was conducted following Equine Assisted Workshops, a slide presentation by Mari Parino, executive director, Xenophon Therapeutic riding Center, and a question-answer session.
4. April minutes unanimously approved on a motion by Seltzer, seconded by Torres.
5. Treasurer Torres reported a petty cash balance of $32.88 and a bank balance of $285.27. Unanimously approved on a motion by Miller, seconded by Seltzer.
6. Library report: Librarian Royce offered to loan her copy of “Horse Speak”, The Equine-Human Translation Guide”, and described library holdings and how to access them.
7. Webmaster report: has “Long Shot” horse racing DVD to donate to Library. Requested help redesigning website.
8. Old business:
A. Dues may be left in Gateway mailbox. Required membership level of 20 has been achieved.
B. June 23 Flea Market: large table reserved, donations with suggested prices attached can be dropped off at Malvini’s home, 2589 Pine Knoll #6, Entry 7A. Organization, procedures, staffing discussed.
C. Xenophon: Markel volunteering two days a week as a sidewalker.
9. New business:
A. Field trips:
1. Markel provided information about visiting Belos Cavalos, charitable equine experiential organization near Sonoma.
2. Miller recorded preferred days for Summit Ranch visit, will also request preferences on email list, then schedule date and request signups.
10. Sharing:
A. Racing update: Camino won his last race, was scheduled to race at Santa Anita on May 20, jockey Ricardo Gonzales up; a foal was euthanized due to broken jaw; 2-year-old at track; mare to be bred.
B. Derby Party recap: several from club attended, earning club $58.78 from proceeds, based on representation at event.
11. The meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m.
The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2018.
